Two people, one studio bench, and a lot of wax.

A lit candle in a glass votive on a weathered wooden table with dried berries

Wick & Wren started in 2019 on Hannah Whitlock’s kitchen counter, after one too many candles that smelled great in the store and like nothing at home. She wanted a candle that filled a room, burned clean and didn’t leave a ring of wasted wax.

Her partner Theo, a former line cook, brought the patience for testing. Every scent we sell has been through at least 30 test pours, tried in different jars, wicks and fragrance loads until it burns evenly to the bottom.

Today we work from a converted print shop on Haywood Row with a team of five. We still pour every candle by hand, twice a week, and we still smell every batch before it’s labelled.

How we got here

  1. 2019First 40 candles sold at the Asheville winter market.
  2. 2020Online shop opens with four scents.
  3. 2022Moved into the Haywood Row studio. Jar return program begins.
  4. 202512,000 jars returned and reused or recycled.

What we won’t compromise on

A clean, even burn

Coconut-soy wax and cotton wicks, matched to each jar so the melt pool reaches the edge every time.

Jars that come home

Return five clean jars with our prepaid label and get $15 credit. We sanitise and reuse what we can and recycle the rest.

Small batches

We pour about 600 candles a week. Stockists can order from 24 units; email wholesale@wickandwren.example.
